The founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Frederic Ozanam, was known throughout Paris as the “Apostle in a Top Hat” as he tipped his top hat to thank the patrons who generously donated to his mission, providing person-to-person support to neighbors in need.
Today, the Society is an international organization of service and we honor our major benefactors as members of the “Top Hat Society”.
