Caring Hearts

Submitted by: SVdP’s St. Robert Conference
“Renata,” a single-mother of a teenage girl, contacted SVdP for rent assistance after a long season of health problems, including a heart attack, left her unable to work for several months. She doesn’t receive financial support from her daughter’s father and had fallen behind in her rent.

After consulting with County Core agencies to confirm her ineligibility for other government assistance, Vincentian volunteers, bringing bags of groceries and caring hearts, visited her in her home and saw for themselves the difficult situation she was facing. Determined to help her avoid eviction and homelessness, SVdP stepped in to pay Renata’s back rent and made it possible for her to remain in her apartment during her convalescence.

She has now returned to full-time employment. This compassionate assistance alleviated Renata’s great anxiety during a financial and health crisis, making it possible for Renata to recover her health at home and for her daughter to remain in her neighborhood school. They are so happy!
